At Lash Centre, we prioritise the safety and well-being of our clients. Therefore, we offer a patch test for lash extensions. We kindly request that you undergo the patch test at least 48 hours before your lash extension appointment, as per the instructions from our product supplier. This is especially important if you have never had an eyelash extensions treatment before. Please note that our safety protocols are subject to regular updates to ensure the best possible experience for our clients.
We conduct our patch test by applying tiny drops of lash adhesive on natural lashes on both eyes. It's essential to understand that this is not the actual extensions process and will only take 2-3 minutes. It involves a minimal application of eyelash adhesive to the area that will be treated.
Applying a few lashes Vs testing on the skin VS testing on the lash hairs
Cyanoacrylate is indeed the primary ingredient in lash adhesive, and it's also the most common cause of reactions.
We exclusively use UK/EU regulated adhesive, which is clearly indicated by a prominent diamond symbol with an exclamation mark inside it on the bottle or packaging.
For this reason, lash adhesives should never come into contact with the skin. Testing on the skin is an outdated method for patch testing and does not provide a clear indicator of potential reactions. Additionally, it can be irritating to the skin. At Lash Centre, we adhere to the correct procedure by applying adhesive only to natural eyelashes during patch testing, ensuring both safety and accuracy in our process.
Due to the potential irritation to the eyes and respiratory system, our patch tests are conducted only with fully closed eyes in a specially equipped lash room with filters.
As mentioned previously, the patch test we conduct is not part of the extension process. Applying a few lashes also does not provide a definitive indication of whether or not a reaction will occur.
There are two main reasons why a patch test may not fully predict potential reactions:
Clients who have experienced reactions in the past are indeed more likely to have allergies, sensitivities, or reactions.
Testing for allergies:
As mentioned previously, neither method of patch testing provides sufficient exposure to the eyes, lashes, and respiratory functions compared to a full set application. Therefore, a patch test may not accurately test for allergies, and a reaction could still occur even if the patch test results are satisfactory. This disclaimer is clearly stated in our consent form, which you are required to sign before each treatment.
In many cases, reactions tend to occur in clients who have experienced previous reactions. It is less likely, though still possible, for a client to have an allergy to Cyanoacrylate if they have not been previously exposed to it.
NOTE: Nail Glue and Super Glue are Cyanoacrylate based too.
Cyanoacrylate allergy
If someone is allergic to Cyanoacrylate, unfortunately, they won’t be able to have lash extensions done. However, it's important to note that most reactions or sensitisations are typically caused by the vapours or odours emitted from the Cyanoacrylate adhesive. These vapours are naturally attracted to the moisture in the eye and can lead to sensitisation.
Different allergies
In some cases, reactions may occur due to unknown factors after leaving the lash technician, typically within the next 2-3 days. If you experience any reactions after leaving the salon, we urge you to inform us immediately and schedule a full removal of the lash set in a professional manner.
Our promise
We prioritise using the minimal amount of adhesive during our treatments to minimize the risk of sensitisation. Our adhesive is sourced exclusively from top British suppliers, meeting stringent standards and safety data sheets (SDS). To ensure optimal air quality, we maintain excellent air movement and ventilation around both the client and lash artist. Additionally, our lash treatment room is equipped with three filters, including a plasma ion purifier filter, to further enhance air purity and ensure a comfortable environment for all.
At Lash Centre, we maintain a strict NO REFUND POLICY, and we do not accept responsibility in the event of any adverse reactions or allergies to our treatments or products. Even if you have previously undergone a patch test or lash application without any reaction, there is still a possibility of a reaction occurring. It's important to understand that our lash artists are dedicated to helping you enhance your beauty, and any reaction to the treatment is not their fault. We are here to support you and ensure your safety and satisfaction to the best of our ability.
It's important to reiterate that individuals who have experienced reactions in the past are highly likely to experience them again, while those who have never reacted before are unlikely to do so (although it remains possible).
